Feather grass 'Algäu'

Stipa calamagrostis 'Algäu' is distinguished by its richly branched, silvery flower panicles that float elegantly above the narrow foliage. In autumn, the leaves develop warm golden tones, extending the plant's ornamental value well into winter. This hardy ornamental grass adds graceful movement and lasting structure to both naturalistic and contemporary garden designs.

Watering and Care

Stipa calamagrostis 'Algäu' thrives in well-drained soil and requires very little watering once established. Its excellent drought tolerance makes it suitable for low-maintenance landscapes.

Maintenance

A simple annual cutback in early spring is usually sufficient. Leaving the flower heads standing through winter adds seasonal interest and texture.

Location

Choose a sunny location with good drainage. This variety works well in contemporary gardens, gravel beds, and naturalistic plantings.

Tip

The striking flower plumes create elegant contrasts when combined with flowering perennials and other ornamental grasses.

Stipa calamagrostis 'Algäu' delights with long, elegant stems that give flower beds, borders, and rock gardens summer lightness. Especially decorative in grass gardens, natural-style perennial beds, or as a solitary plant.

The flower spikes attract insects, providing visual dynamism.
