Exotic-looking ornamental grass with fine stems.
  • Easy-care and long-lasting.
  • Hardy and robust.
  • Perfect for natural gardens and dry areas.
  • Beautiful movement in the wind.

Stipa extremiorientalis forms compact clumps of narrow fresh green foliage topped with striking golden flower spikes that emerge during summer. Its upright habit and delicate stems create an elegant structure in borders. This hardy ornamental grass combines beautifully with flowering perennials and continues to provide attractive interest well into autumn.

Watering and Care

Stipa extremiorientalis thrives in well-drained soils and requires little watering once established. Adapted to dry conditions, it performs best when not overwatered.

Maintenance

Cut back old stems in spring. The decorative flower heads and foliage provide texture and movement throughout winter.

Location

Plant in full sun with sandy or gravelly soil. It is an excellent choice for naturalistic plantings and drought-tolerant borders.

Tip

The delicate flower plumes combine beautifully with late-flowering perennials and other ornamental grasses.

Stipa extremiorientalis brings summer height and delicate structure to flower beds, borders, and natural-style gardens with light green stems that sway gently in the wind. Especially decorative in natural-style plantings or as an accent grass.

The flower spikes attract insects, visually enlivening the garden.
