Common comfrey

Symphytum officinale is a native wild perennial with vigorous growth and rough, dark green foliage. From spring to early summer, it produces bell-shaped flowers in shades of violet-pink to deep purple that attract large numbers of bees and bumblebees. This hardy plant is ideal for wildlife gardens, damp meadows, and naturalistic plantings with high ecological value.

Watering and Care

Symphytum officinale thrives in fresh to moist soil and performs best with consistent moisture. Regular watering during dry weather helps maintain vigorous growth and lush foliage.

Maintenance

This hardy native perennial requires little care. Cutting back after flowering may encourage fresh foliage. Over time, it forms dense, attractive colonies.

Location

Plant in full sun or partial shade with nutrient-rich soil. It is especially suitable for wildlife gardens and moist areas.

Tip

The flowers are highly attractive to pollinating insects and contribute significantly to garden biodiversity.

Symphytum officinale adds summer bloom abundance to flower beds, borders, and natural-style gardens with violet to blue blooms appearing in dense spikes. Especially decorative in natural perennial beds or wet areas.
