Thymus 'Elfin' forms extremely dense, low cushions of tiny aromatic leaves, making it an outstanding walkable groundcover. In early summer, countless soft pink flowers almost completely cover the plant, attracting large numbers of bees. This hardy variety is perfect for rock gardens, paving joints, dry stone walls, and between stepping stones.
Watering and Care
Thymus 'Elfin' prefers dry to moderately fresh, exceptionally well-drained soil. Once established, it requires very little water and handles drought with ease. Avoid excessive moisture around the roots.
Maintenance
This compact thyme requires minimal maintenance. A light trim after flowering helps maintain its dense, cushion-like form and encourages fresh growth.
Location
Plant in full sun with sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil. It is ideal for rock gardens, pathways, walls, and groundcover plantings.
Tip
Its dense mat-forming habit suppresses weeds while creating an attractive evergreen carpet.
Thymus 'Elfin' adds summer freshness and aromatic accents to flower beds, borders, and rock gardens with small violet blooms. Especially decorative in groups or as edging plants.
The blooms attract bees and butterflies, visually enlivening the garden.
