Thymus longicaulis develops dense carpets of small evergreen aromatic leaves and is covered with masses of rosy-purple flowers in late spring. Its low-growing habit makes it ideal for sunny slopes, rock gardens, and dry stone walls. This hardy thyme provides abundant nectar for bees and other pollinating insects while maintaining attractive year-round structure.
Watering and Care
Thymus longicaulis thrives in dry to moderately fresh, well-drained soil. Once established, it requires very little supplemental watering and performs exceptionally well in drought-tolerant gardens.
Maintenance
Trim lightly after flowering to maintain a dense habit and prevent stems from becoming sparse. The plant remains attractive with minimal care.
Location
Grow in full sun with well-drained, preferably calcareous soil. It is particularly effective in rock gardens and sunny slopes.
Tip
The dense mats and abundant flowers provide excellent forage for bees and other pollinators.
Thymus longicaulis adds summer elegance to flower beds, borders, and rock gardens with violet flower spikes and aromatic foliage. Especially decorative in natural-style rock gardens or as ground cover.
The blooms attract bees and butterflies, providing visual highlights.
