Thymus pulegioides forms loose cushions of aromatic dark green foliage and produces abundant purple-pink flowers throughout summer. This native wild thyme is an excellent choice for wildlife gardens, dry grasslands, and sunny rock gardens. Its long flowering season makes it an important nectar source for bees and many other pollinating insects.
Watering and Care
Thymus pulegioides prefers dry to moderately fresh, well-drained soil. Once established, it requires very little watering and tolerates drought exceptionally well. Avoid excessive moisture around the roots.
Maintenance
Light trimming after flowering helps maintain a compact shape and encourages fresh growth. Remove any winter-damaged stems in spring.
Location
Grow in full sun with sandy, gravelly, or calcareous soil. It is ideal for herb gardens, wildlife-friendly plantings, and dry borders.
Tip
The aromatic foliage and abundant flowers make this species highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Thymus pulegioides brings summer fragrance and color variety to flower beds, borders, and natural-style gardens with violet flower spikes and aromatic foliage. Especially decorative in rock gardens or natural-style perennial beds.
