- Dark red foliage as a striking feature.
- Summer blooms with small purple flowers.
- Low-maintenance and hardy.
- Suitable for beds and containers.
- Attractive to bees.
Tradescantia 'Rubra' produces vivid rosy-red to rich purple flowers that create a striking display throughout summer. Narrow, gracefully arching foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the succession of blooms that open each day. This hardy perennial adds vibrant colour to borders while attracting bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial pollinating insects.
Watering and Care
Tradescantia 'Rubra' thrives in humus-rich, consistently moist soil. It should never dry out completely, as this reduces flowering performance significantly.
Maintenance
Cutting back after the first bloom encourages a second flowering period and keeps the plant compact. Remove weak shoots in spring.
Location
Best grown in full sun to partial shade. In sunny positions, regular watering is essential.
Tip
The deep violet-pink flowers create strong color impact in perennial borders.
Tradescantia 'Rubra' impresses with its deep purple leaves, perfect for beds, containers, or hanging arrangements. It creates intense color contrasts in the garden.
Ideal for creating striking focal points in sunny or partially shaded areas.
