Silky mullein

Verbascum bombyciferum impresses with large silvery woolly leaf rosettes and towering flower spikes carrying masses of bright yellow blooms during summer. Its soft, felted foliage provides striking ornamental interest even before flowering. This impressive hardy mullein attracts bees and other pollinators while adding bold architectural structure to naturalistic and Mediterranean-style gardens.

Watering and Care

Verbascum bombyciferum performs best in well-drained soil with regular watering during extended dry spells. Once established, it becomes more resilient but shows the strongest growth when moisture levels remain reasonably consistent.

Maintenance

Remove spent flowers regularly to keep the plant attractive and encourage a longer flowering season. Old stems can be cut back in early spring before new growth appears.

Location

A sunny position encourages abundant flowering and sturdy growth. Rich garden soil with good drainage provides ideal conditions.
