Veronica officinalis is a native wild perennial with a creeping growth habit and small blue-violet flowers that appear from early summer into summer. The decorative, slightly hairy foliage forms dense carpets and is ideal for naturalistic plantings, woodland edges, or as a ground-covering plant. The flowers provide a valuable food source for many bees and other insects.
Watering and Care
Veronica officinalis performs best in well-drained garden soil that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. During extended dry spells, regular watering helps the plant remain healthy and encourages strong flowering. Once established, it becomes more resilient, but consistent care will always result in the most attractive growth.
Maintenance
Remove faded flowers and damaged foliage on a regular basis to keep the plant looking tidy. Cutting back old stems in spring encourages fresh new growth and helps maintain a neat habit.
Location
A position in full sun or light partial shade is ideal. Rich, loose soil with good drainage allows the plant to develop fully and produce abundant blooms.
Tip
Veronica officinalis combines beautifully with other perennials and provides long-lasting colour, texture and seasonal interest in the garden.
Veronica officinalis adds decorative accents with delicate blue flowers to beds and borders. Ideal for natural-style plantings, herb gardens, and sunny garden areas.
The plant visually lightens the bed and attracts numerous insects.
