  • Drought-tolerant and ideal for sunny spots.
  • Long-lasting flowering from late spring to summer.
  • Attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
  • Compact ground cover for rock gardens and prairie.
  • Low maintenance and winter-hardy.
Achillea tomentosa Woolly Yarrow is a compact perennial with soft, woolly foliage and sunny yellow blooms. Its drought-tolerant character and sturdy stems make it a reliable garden companion, delivering color from late spring through summer. Forming low, clumping mounds, it adds texture and warmth to borders, rock gardens, and sunny beds, while attracting pollinators. Preferring sun and well-drained soil, it thrives in diverse conditions and fits into naturalistic plantings with enduring charm.

Care and Watering

Achillea tomentosa loves full sun and well-drained soil. Water sparingly after planting; once established it tolerates drought and dislikes soggy roots. Mulch lightly to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

Maintenance

Deadhead faded blooms to extend flowering, trim back in spring, and divide every 2–3 years for vigor.

Location

Plant in a sunny, dry site such as rock gardens or borders with good drainage and air circulation.

Tips

Avoid overwatering; use gritty soil; enjoy the woolly foliage and easy propagation by division.

Achillea tomentosa Woolly yarrow adds a light and sunny touch with compact umbels and golden flower heads that retain color for a long time. The fine, gray-green foliage creates a lovely texture contrast with evergreen and flowering plants. Perfect for naturalistic combinations and as a subtly colorful prairie and rock garden accent in borders and beds.
